National Day of Action for Education in Indonesia - May 2nd 2010

National Education Day in Indonesia

Students Declare : Againts The Capitalization of Education and Call For The Unity of People’s Movement

After having been involved in the resistance of the labour movement on May Day 2010, hundreds of students and other movement groups get ready to unite for the National Education Day on May 2. Student demonstrations this time firmly stating opposition to the capitalization of education. Students realize that at this time education is no longer aiming to improve the quality of life, but more oriented to accumulate capital. Evidence is the increasing cost of education every year and consequently it gets more difficult  for the majority of society to have access to it.

End of March 2010, the government revoked the BHP Law (a kind of Privatization Law) which legalizes the liberalization of education in Indonesia for now. However, it does not remove the capitalization process of education in Indonesia. SBY-Boediono and political elites are still confident to carry out the concept of neo-liberal policies.
