"Day of United Symbolic Actions"

- Overview -

Groups in various regions are preparing actions for June 16th to publicly announce the "Global Wave of Action for Education" in autumn this year (Oct./Nov. 2010).
As part of day a worldwide press release will also be published. A draft open for discussion will be published soon. All actions should be mentioned in there and group contacts listed below. Also if you don't have the capacities to arrange an action for that day you can have your contacts listed below the press release and this way signal that you consider yourself part of the network getting ready for the "Global Wave of Action".

An important global chat meeting of education activists will take place this sunday (June 6th) where details will be discussed. You are an education activist, then join the chat meeting!

Let us use the space here to create an overview of actions as part of the "Day of United Symbolic Actions". Just leave a comment below or send a mail to united.for.education@gmail.com giving a short description/explanation of your planned action and details on your group [name, e-Mail address, phone number, website] as you want them to be listed below the press release by June 13th. So that there is still enough time to translate it.

Demonstration in Dresden (Germany)

The alliance calling for a demonstration in Dresden (Germany) confirmed that their protest can be announced as part of the "Day of United Symbolic Actions".

-----------------------------------------------

Dear fellow activists,

We, the Conference of Student Bodys in the State of Saxony, are extremely excited to announce, that on June 16th (!!) we'll have a demonstration against the severe cutback plans, currently underway in the areas of education, universities and social aid programms. The current budgets in those three areas are supposed to be shortened by 1.7 billion euros in the coming 2 years which basically means the end of many social initiatives, closing of entire universities and severely diminished school quality.

Because of this we have founded a broad alliance and will start off a massive campaign of protest with a large demonstration here in the city of Dresden.

Anybody who can make the trip is more than welcome to join us. If you like you can post this on your website or wherever you please.
