People worldwide are struggling against the increasing privatisation of public education and for free emancipatory education!

Massive protests at Chittagong University (Bangladesh) against a hike in tuition fees - police attacked on August 02nd: hundreds injured and detained!

August 09th: protests at Datta Meghe College of Engineering (India) against a hike in fees.

Universidad de San Carlos - the only public university in Guatemala - has been occupied since August 09th. Five students began a hunger strike on August 26th!

Hundreds of angry parents stormed Arya Gurukul Vidyalaya school in Kalyan (India) to protest a hike in fees on August 14th.

Benin: on August 16th students confronted the Governor demanding that negotiations with striking lecturers are resumed.

Over 40 protests for free education in 16 countries in August 2010.

August 19/20th : Police attacked students of Quaid-e-Azam Medical College of Bahawalpur (Pakistan) during protests against increasing tuition fees - about 80 students were arrested and more than 20 had to be treated in hospital!

 

------------------

August 18th : More than 3000 students joined a demonstration in Santiago (Chile) against the privatisation of education! Riot police tried to stop them with water canons and tear gas - 66 protesters were detained!

August 30th : Hundreds of students protested against plans to privatise hostels at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Pietermaritzburg (South Africa) - 16 were detained!

August 27th : Teachers protested for a minimum wage and against new laws pushing for the privatisation of education at the Pedagogical University in Tegucigalpa (Honduras). Gas canisters were fired at them and they were assaulted by police forces.

People across the U.S.A. are getting ready for the "National Day of Action to Defend Education" on October 7th 2010, which kicks off the "Global Wave of Action for Education"!

Balloons invaded largest lecture halls at University of California (Berkeley) to announce Oct.7th
