i was suggested to discuss this topic here in the forum and not on the mailing list :-)
we are working on a software called crabgrass, and want to offer to set it up for you on donation base, on your server or on ours
crabgrass is an open source social network software, which is a special software for
networking social movements internationally in a more efficient way,
it would make this website a lot more interactive
it is a bit like a mixture of facebook, wikipedia and projectmanagementsoftware
and has all functions like sending messages, creating profiles, groups
and commitees, wikipages, and also to-do-lists, polls,
group-discussions, etc
it is mainly developed by the riseup collective in the US - and volunteers all over the globe, you can see how it looks like at we.riseup.net
we have a demoversion online (which was never really used) at bildungsstreik.org
it would be good for us if you would use it, test it and give us feedback
as we are still improving it and adding new functions
soon there will be for example so-called hybrid-forum, which is a forum
and a mailinglist that synchronise each other, so people who prefer
forums can check he forum and others can check their mails
also planned are events calenders, and many more functions
so please give me some feedback what you think about it
This sounds really good !
Hi, Weltenwandlerin !
And hello everyone !
Since you speak about creating a new platform for the International Student Movement, I think everyone should give their opinion about how should this platform be organized, because we are all concerned, and I feel that if we do it together, it will help us feel we are united, because we'll have worked on our platform all together. :-)
An activist from Paris and I discussed about the possibility of creating different part in different languages for the platform of the International Student Movement.
For example, if the platform we use is called :'international-student-movement.org', it could be nice to have 'international-student-movement.org/fr' for the French language, '/de' for the German one, and so on. (I think it is better to think in matters of languages, whether than reasoning in terms of countries, since we want to feel we are citizens of the world, and not of individual countries. Don't you think so ?)
And these parts could be organized as each group (I mean group of people speaking the same language) wants it to be organized. But that means that each group has to organize itself to gather and speak about that together. These parts in different languages could give : a precise description of the International Student Movement, links to websites in your languages (as much and as various as possible) ; presentation of local groups with websites and email address if available, and partnerships. A forum, for any possible debate, a space for local news, and an other for international one.
I find important to precise that these parts must not be a way of creating smaller groups and forgetting the others. It must, on the contrary, help those who feel better when they read things in their own languages. This means, that local news have to be translated into English and shared on the international part of the forum, and that international one (with chat summaries also) have to translated into our own language, so that people who do not feel like reading / or cannot read English, can still be informed of what happens at an international level.
Now, for the international platform (which would be the English-written one, of course)...I have no clue of what we could do. XD
But maybe you have ;-)
Best regards,
Faelynn (Lyon)
