France: Education, Wake-up!

Education, Wake - Up!

The radical group in France "Les Pas de Noms" (which can be translated into English as “the No Names”) calls on people across France and abroad to take part in a subversive action for Public Education being Not For Sale!

During the last 10 years, education in Europe has suffered a deep and unexampled process of mutation.
Public school disappears: budget cuts imply the agony of public education in favor of private, commercialized ones. The scientific research is progressively being privatized, the teachers’ jobs are reduced and entrance fees to the university are constantly increased!

Another thing is a horrible stigmatization of the "universe of education" in the mainstream media and public opinion:
the youth is called “dangerous” and “uncontrollable”, university workers are called “idlers” and “unadapted” for all the processes of so-called modernization in the high school.

The economic world imposes its model of school as a profit-making institution to the detriment of high quality education, free, secular and open to everyone!

It’s time to say STOP! Les Pas de Noms invite all the students of universities and high schools of France to take part in our non-violent insurrectional movement! France must join the international revolutionary wave for free education!

We encourage all the students of universities and high-schools to take part in the global wave of actions at the end of mars 2011, In the frame of the Spring of Resistance organized on the International Student Movement!

To do this, we should rewind our alarm clocks!

On the 25th of March, exactly at 2pm, let’s make our buzzers and alarm clocks on our mobile phones ring in all the classrooms, in all the lecture halls, to wake up our classmates and our fellow students!
Let’s wake up our professors, our teachers in order to give them back their hope: they trust in a free and independent School, in an open and non-commercial University!
Let’s film our actions with photo- and video-cameras, with cameras on our mobile phones. Let’s share our materials with the rest of the population to help them realize that we’ve got enough force to fight for another Education!

« Contrary to what people make us to believe in, students do not refuse being taught something. They just ask to have a possibility to discuss about what they will be taught in order to be sure that it really makes any sense. You don’t imagine how many stupid and senseless things I’ve been taught when I was a student. » - Jean-Paul Sartre

This movement is part of international days of action of 24, 25, 26th of March : http://www.emancipating-education-for-all.org
