Germany - November 17th:
"Education Strike"

Groups and activists across Germany are calling for an "Education Strike for Solidarity and Free Education" on November 17th. This day of action explicitly takes place in the context of the "Global Weeks of Action for Education".

Here is an overview of activities planned as part of the "education strike" in Germany that day:

• "Education Strike" in Berlin:
  Various groups and alliances in Berlin such as "Occupy University" and Schulstreik ("School Strike") are currently discussing and preparing activities. So far one major rally was confirmed to kick off at the "Rotes Rathaus" (= red city hall) at noon.
  A solidarity party will take place on November 11th at "K9".

• "Education Strike" rally in Bochum:
  The "Education Strike" alliance calls for a rally beginning at 9.30am at the main railway station.

• #OccupyEducation - "Education Strike" Action Day in Bonn:
  The Bonner Jugendbündnis ("Bonn Youth Movement") is mobilising to the Kaiserplatz where a rally is scheduled to begin at 9am.

• "Day of Action" in Bremen:
  An alliance of "education protest" activists put together a schedule for activities on various days. Highlights will mark a rally on November 15th as well as a day of action with flashmobs and rounds of discussion at the University of Bremen on November 17th itself.

• "Education Strike" rallies in Cologne:
  Various activist groups in Cologne mobilise for two rallies to fight for better conditions within the education system as well as for free emancipatory education in general. Both rallies will begin at 10am. One will kick off at Albertus-Magnus-Platz (in front of the main university building) and the other at Deutz, Eitorfer Straße.

• Rally in Darmstadt:
  The "Committee for Free Education" calls for a rally under the banner "For Solidarity and Free Education; One World - One Struggle". It is scheduled to begin at the Luisenplatz at 11am. They explicitly fight for free access to emancipatory education for all within democatically structured institutions and against power structures unleashed by the capitalist system.

• "Education Strike" rally in Dortmund:
  The "Education Strike" alliance calls on all students, pupils, trainees, teachers, lecturers and parents identifying with the struggle for education to join a rally from 10.30am onwards at the main railway station.

• Week of Action in Dresden:
  Activists are preparing activities for Nov. 10-18th.
  Nov. 10th: The Philosophy Faculty is threatened to be cut by 66% (from 6 to 2 professorships), consequently the independent study course would not exist anymore. So students at the faculty will be encourage to write their grievances onto banners.
  Nov. 14th: Travelling to the rally against cuts in Leipzig together.
  Nov. 15th: Students will prepare banners at the Philosophy Faculty
  Nov. 16th: Education bags will be packed to be distributed on the day of action on Nov. 17th
  Nov. 17th: setting up a stage on campus + doing flashmobs: "Try it with Coziness" + speeches + more flashmobs: "bubble trouble" + public soup kitchen

• Week of Action in Duisburg:
  The platform "Education Movement Duisburg" is still working on a week of action for Nov. 14-18th. A rally on November 17th starting at 10am will mark a highlight. The week of action is directed against "social exclusion, the formation of elites and the increasing pressure to perform" and pushes for free emancipatory education for all. • "Education Strike" rally in Erlangen:
  Various activist groups are currently preparing a rally scheduled to begin at 1.30pm at the Hugenottenplatz. Details still to be announced.

• "Education Strike" rally in Essen:
  The Essener Jugendbündnis ("Essen Youth Alliance") calls for a rally at 9am at the Willy-Brandt-Platz for November 17th itself. Two days earlier (Nov. 15th) activists will meet for a flashmob at the same location. And on Nov. 11th from 7pm onwards a Solidarity Party will take place.

• Education protests in Frankfurt/Main:
  The Jugendbündnis Frankfurt/Main ("Youth Alliance Frankfurt/Main") prepares a day of activities. Beginning with workshops at 9am at the Goethe University (campus Bockenheim), followed by an "education strike" rally from that campus at 2pm and an evening program incl. a party from 6pm onwards.

  The "Education Strike" alliance is mobilising participate in a rally beginning at 11am at the Berliner Platz.

  The group known as B-Team calls for a rally. It is scheduled to kick off at noon at the Opernplatz. Other activist groups are mobilising to an "education rave" as part of the rally.

• "Occupy Education! 'Education Strike' 2011" in Heidelberg:
  The "Education Strike" alliance calls for a rally at 11am kicking off at the main railway station. Activists in Mannheim, Ludwigshafen and Karlsruhe are mobilising to the rally in Heidelberg as well.

• Rally for Free Education in Hildesheim:
  Pupils and students call for a rally demanding an end to the increasing commercialisation of education and to fight for free emancipatory education for all. The demonstration will kick off at the main railway station at 10am.

• Rally in Ludwigsburg:
  In the early morning the Bildungsstreik Ludwigsburg ("Education Strike Ludwigsburg") alliance calls on all pupils, trainees and students to join the demonstration in Stuttgart at 10am. Meeting point is the main railway station Ludwigsburg at 9.30am. From there everyone travels together to the demo.
  At 2.30pm a rally is scheduled to take place in Ludwigsburg itself, followed by a round of discussion at the PH Ludwigsburg (school of education Ludwigsburg) focussing on the topic: "education within capitalism". At the of the day everyone is invited to join an "Education Strike"-Aftershow-Party.

• "Education Strike" rally in Munich:
  Various activist groups mobilise for a rally to fight for better conditions within the education system as well as for free emancipatory education in general. People will begin to meet at 9.30am at the Geschwister-Scholl-Platz in front of the main gates of the Ludwig-Maximilian-University and will begin with some speeches. The demonstration is then scheduled to kick off at 10am.
