the "Global Wave" kicked-off !!

!!!!! use #globalEdu or #ondaGlobal for tweets related to the "Global Wave" !!!!!

Today (Oct.7th) marked the kick-off for the "Global Wave of Action for Education"!
The most massive protests took place across the U.S. of A. with about 75 actions, incl. sit-ins on various campuses. The most spectacular one at the University of California (Berkeley) with 600 people staging a sit-in at a library for some hours.
Groups in Munich, Bochum (both in Germany) and Innsbruck (Austria) also announced to mark the kick-off with an action, but so far no reports came in.

At this point I want to remind everyone:
If you plan to have an action linked to the "Global Wave", then do mark it on the "virtual worldmap", post the details inside the forum or send them to and they will appear on the map!

The "Global Wave" will continue tomorrow (Oct.8th) with strikes and demonstrations of high school students across Italy (called for by Unione degli Studenti) and protests against the IMF/Worldbank annual meeting in Washington DC (U.S. of A.). At least those are the actions that have been announced so far.

Video showing some scenes from the protests at UC Berkeley a few hours ago:

Sent in by e-mail from the University of California - Irvine:

About 150 students protested "the death of public education" at UC Irvine this afternoon with a march around campus, under heavy police observation. After the march they found the administration building locked. Photo attached, more to follow.
thanks,
