Activists in Guatemala requested this report on a march on October 20th to be published here:

I'm sending you some other pictures, well the activity was the celebration of the day of the revolution, "dia de la revolución", it celebrates the revolution of 1944, an historic event in Guatemala. A lot of people don't celebrate it because in this country other days are the ones that the System allows you to celebrate.
What happened was that a military goverment (Jorge Ubico Castañeda) was taken out of power and Juan José Arévalo Bermejo took over. It was one of the 2 good presidents that Guatemala ever had.
A lot of syndicates from the city and outside the city come and participated on this march and during the protest. Every year there is something that is affecting our country in one way or another, the struggle against the system must continue, and a lot of students, diferent organizations, and average Guatemalans unite during this day and march together to fight fot our right to vindicate our demands, our struggles and our solidarity with one another. (up to 2000 people participated today). This is inside the city centre, in la zona 1, there was a lot of graffiti in every corner, people even painted the transurbanos which is like a subway but not underground, and Mcdonalds, big stores, and every property of the municipality and the mayor. There is an avenue that was taken by his people to build their bourgeoisie center. They took out more than 500 people who had devoted their life to sell anything you can think of on this avenue. They raffled spaces in another place they build and more than 100 people where left out. Now on this avenue there is going to be a transmetro way too from december onwards. When people entered La sexta, that's the name of the avenue, there was an enconuter with municipality police. Some of the guys who painted on the block, but nothing big, then there was a speach about Oliverio Castañeda who was one of the greatest intelectuals and revolutionaries in Guatemala, a student from USAC.
There are a lot of things to fight about right now in USAC, we are fighting for the right to build our education, peoples education, not what the states calls education.

Have a great weekend ~
