09/11/2009
Today is the first day of the "Education is NOT for $A£€ - Global Week of Action"!
All groups are asked to list their reports (incl. videos and pictures) inside here or send them directly to !
Announced actions in advance for today (as far as I know):
An "overview" of further planned actions as part of the week of action can be viewed here.

Dresden (Germany)
~ occupation ~
Hundreds of students decided to occupy the "Potthoffbau 81" [aka POT81] at the Technical University of Dresden.
With this action they continue their struggle for better conditions at their university and expressed their solidarity with all occupations of university buildings across Germany and Europe as a whole.
Different working groups were formed, some of which specialized on creating pamphlets and banners, others to formulate press releases and specific demands.
With the occupation a free space was established, which is open to all for controversial and fruitful discussions.

Greifswald (Germany)

About 50 students occupied the largest lecture hall "Audimax" at the University of Greifswald.
They are using the space to have open discussions on education policies and declared their solidarity with the occupations of educational institutions in Germany and Austria.
All lecturers, pupils, students, parents and staff are most welcome to join the workshops and discussions.

London (UK)
~ occupation ~
"Students from London College of Communication last night (09/11/09) occupied the Main Lecture Theatre over changes implemented by senior management. The group, 'Oppose', formed at the end of the academic year 08/09 in light of the 'efficiency programme' proposed by the recently employed head of college, Sandra Kemp. The programme presents 16 courses to be cut and approximately 180 staff to be made redundant."

Mönchengladbach (Germany)
~ occupation ~
In the early morning about 50 students began to occupy the largest lecture hall "Audimax" at the University of Niederrhein in Mönchengladbach.
Only a few hours later close to 300 people gathered inside.
They demand the abolishment of tuition fees and free access to public education for all. Some of the lectures joined the protests.
